Police described an elevated-roadway crash
At about 11:48 p.m. on May 18, 2022, police responded to a collision on the northbound Bruckner Expressway south of Exit 7C for Country Club Road in Pelham Bay. The official crash record places the crash on the Bruckner Expressway and records one death and three motorist injuries.
Police told Norwood News that the 30-year-old BMW driver was traveling southbound when he lost control, drove off the elevated embankment and came down on the northbound lanes, where a collision with a northbound Toyota RAV4 followed.
The crash was near Country Club Road in Pelham Bay
The crash was reported on the Bruckner Expressway near Country Club Road, south of Exit 7C, in Pelham Bay. News 12 also described the site as the Bruckner Expressway near Country Club Road.
Police described the location as an elevated stretch of the expressway: they said the BMW driver left the southbound side and came down onto the northbound lanes below.
Alwayne Hylton and three other people were taken to Jacobi
Police identified the driver who died as Alwayne Hylton, 30, from Wakefield. The official record also identifies the fatal victim as a 30-year-old male driver.
Police said EMS took three men from the BMW to Jacobi Medical Center; Hylton was pronounced dead there, and the two other BMW occupants, ages 26 and 37, were listed in stable condition with head and body trauma. The 51-year-old woman driving the Toyota was the only person in that SUV and was taken to Jacobi with minor injuries in stable condition.
Records list a BMW sedan and a Toyota SUV
Police reported finding a 2009 BMW 328 with extensive exterior damage and deployed airbags and a Toyota RAV4 with front passenger-side damage. The official record lists a 2009 BMW sedan and a 2020 Toyota SUV.
The official record says the BMW had three occupants and the Toyota had one occupant.
Police asked the public for information
The NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad was investigating, and police asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
