NYPD Crash in Longwood Left Pedestrian Dead
A 65-year-old pedestrian was fatally injured in a Bronx crash after police said officers lost control of a marked NYPD Ford Explorer that had been hit at Westchester Avenue and Hoe Avenue.

A 65-year-old Bronx pedestrian, identified in press coverage as Bonet Milagros, was injured at Westchester Avenue and Hoe Avenue on Oct. 6, 2022, and later died. Police told Bronx Times that two male officers were in a marked NYPD Ford Explorer responding to an auto-larceny assignment when the Ford Explorer was hit by another vehicle. Police said the officers lost control and the Ford Explorer went onto the sidewalk at the northeast corner, where several pedestrians were injured. The city crash record lists one pedestrian killed and eight people injured, and cites driver inattention or distraction for both involved drivers.
Police said an NYPD response ended on the sidewalk
The crash happened at about 3 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2022, at Westchester Avenue and Hoe Avenue in the Bronx. Police told Bronx Times that two male officers were in a marked NYPD Ford Explorer responding to a live auto-larceny assignment when the Ford Explorer was hit by another vehicle.
Police said the officers lost control after that impact, and the Ford Explorer went onto the sidewalk at the northeast corner of Westchester and Hoe, where several pedestrians were injured before it came to rest.
A Bronx pedestrian died months after the crash
The official crash record lists the person killed as a 65-year-old female pedestrian at the intersection. Bronx Times identified her as Bonet Milagros and reported that she was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals Lincoln after the crash, then pronounced dead on May 4, 2023.
Bronx Times reported that Milagros lived in a building about one stoplight north of the crash site.
Injury counts differed between the official record and early coverage
The official crash record lists one person killed and eight people injured, including four injured pedestrians and four injured motorists.
Bronx Times reported that CBS counted 10 victims at the time of the incident, including two children ages 2 and 5, and that all were expected to survive at that time.
