Driver Charged After Pedestrian Killed Near Grand Central Parkway

On Jan. 27, 2023, Daniel Zuzworsky, 24, was fatally injured as he crossed the Grand Central Parkway service road at Homelawn Street in Queens. Officers found Zuzworsky unconscious and unresponsive, and EMS took him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he died. Yeoh remained at the scene and was later charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.
A left turn near the service road ended in a fatal injury.
Police told local reporters that Yan Yeoh was driving a 2013 Mercedes on Homelawn Street and making a left turn onto the eastbound Grand Central Parkway service road when he allegedly hit Daniel Zuzworsky, who was crossing the service road.
The official crash record places the crash at 8:40 a.m. at Grand Central Parkway and Home Lawn Street, while the reviewed police accounts reported the time as about 8:43 a.m.
Daniel Zuzworsky died after police and medics responded.
Zuzworsky was 24. QNS reported that officers found him lying in the roadway unconscious and unresponsive, and that EMS took him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Patch described Zuzworsky as from Jamaica; QNS reported that he lived on Wexford Terrace near 175th Street in Jamaica Hills.
The records identify a Mercedes SUV and a turning driver.
The city record lists one vehicle: a 2013 Mercedes SUV with one occupant, a licensed New York male driver. The record says the driver was traveling east and making a left turn, with damage recorded to the right front bumper.
The reviewed articles identified the driver as Yeoh, 63, of Bayside, and said he remained at the scene after the crash.
Fault findings differ between the city record and later police account.
The city person record attributes pedestrian error or confusion to Zuzworsky. QNS reported that the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad later determined Yeoh was at fault.
Police arrested Yeoh on Feb. 21. Patch reported that police cited failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care; QNS reported charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care resulting in serious injury.
