At about 7:40 p.m. on May 10, 2023, two drivers in sedans hit 64-year-old pedestrian Clemencia Cabrera on the northbound Major Deegan near Exit 12, and EMS took her to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she died.

EMS took Cabrera to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police reported no arrests and said the investigation remained ongoing.

Police described two impacts in the center lane

Police told Norwood News that officers responded to a 911 call for a pedestrian collision on the northbound Major Deegan at the exit area to North Mosholu Parkway. Officers found Cabrera unconscious and unresponsive on the roadway.

The drivers and vehicles police identified

Police said a 20-year-old driver in a 2015 Mercedes Benz C300 first hit Cabrera with the passenger-side mirror in the center lane. Police said a 19-year-old driver in a 2014 Toyota Camry then ran over her while also traveling north in the center lane.

Near the Mosholu Parkway exit in Van Cortlandt Park

The crash happened on the northbound Major Deegan Expressway near Exit 12, the exit for northbound Mosholu Parkway, in the Van Cortlandt Park area of the Bronx.

Clemencia Cabrera was from Kingsbridge Heights

Norwood News reported that police identified the pedestrian who died as Clemencia Cabrera, 64, from the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx.
