Police said a pavement defect threw the rider down

Police said Armando Gonzalez was riding an electric scooter westbound on Beverley Road at Westminster Road at about 2:20 p.m. when he hit a defect in the pavement and was thrown off. The official crash record lists the crash time as 2:19 p.m. on Aug. 13, 2023.

A Kensington resident later died at the hospital

Responding officers found Gonzalez lying in the street with head trauma, according to the NYPD account cited by Brooklyn Paper. Emergency responders brought him to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where police said he was pronounced dead on Aug. 21.

The NYPD investigation remained open

Brooklyn Paper reported that the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad conducted the preliminary investigation, and an NYPD spokesperson said the incident remained under investigation.
