A chase allegation shaped the case

The crash record says the collision happened at 2:09 p.m. on Aug. 21, 2023, on Cross Bronx Service Road N at Olmstead Avenue. It involved a moped and an SUV, and the 32-year-old male moped driver was killed.

Press accounts said Davis had been riding west on the Cross Bronx Expressway service road after a dispute. The Daily News first reported that police said the SUV driver hit him, then reported the next day that police had determined the driver did not make contact. Prosecutors later said Brehisly Jimenez Gonzalez pursued Davis at high speed and rear-ended his moped.

Kadeem Davis was remembered by friends

Friends identified the moped driver as Kadeem Davis, 32. Schuchanna Adlam told the Daily News he was a kind person and said, “He was a jokester,” adding, “He was a great father who lived for his kids. Loved them out of this world.”

Police arrested Jimenez Gonzalez, 22, after the crash. By Thursday, prosecutors had charged him with manslaughter, assault, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

The moped and SUV were both headed west

The official vehicle records list a 2023 JiaJue moped and a 2004 Honda SUV, both traveling west and going straight before the crash. The Daily News described Davis as riding a gas-powered JiaJue moped and Jimenez Gonzalez as driving a 2004 Honda Pilot.

Reports placed the crash on the Cross Bronx service road

The official record places the crash on Cross Bronx Service Road N at Olmstead Avenue. News reports placed it near Gleason Avenue on the Cross Bronx Expressway service road, with the Daily News describing the area as Parkchester and later as Unionport.

Residents who spoke with News 12 described the intersection as dangerous, saying drivers and motorcycle riders pass through at high speeds even near a stop sign. Diamond Ramos said, “It was really scary, I was so scared 'cause I had my son with me.”
