Driver Charged After Jose Galan Dragged in Bronx Hit-and-Run

At about 5:24 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2023, a driver in a 2013 Lincoln sedan was involved in a crash recorded at Jerome Avenue and McClellan Street that killed a 59-year-old pedestrian. Prosecutors later identified the driver as Timiko Young and the pedestrian as Jose “Negro” Galan. They said Galan fell in front of Young’s sedan at a Jerome Avenue gas station, Young drove over him while pulling out, checked beneath the sedan with a passenger, then drove away and dragged him about 950 feet. The official crash record lists driver inattention or distraction as a contributing factor. In July 2025, news reports said Young was charged or indicted in the fatal hit-and-run.
Prosecutors said Young left after seeing Galan pinned
The official record lists a crash at 5:24 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2023, at Jerome Avenue and McClellan Street, involving a sedan and a 59-year-old pedestrian who was killed.
The Daily News, citing police, prosecutors and law-enforcement sources, reported that Timiko Young was pulling out of a Jerome Avenue gas station after refueling when Jose “Negro” Galan fell in front of her 2013 Lincoln sedan. Prosecutors said Young drove over Galan, stopped with a passenger, looked beneath the sedan where he was lodged, and then drove away.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said Young drove at least 950 feet across Edward L. Grant Highway before stopping in a bike lane, where medics and firefighters found Galan still beneath the sedan.
Official and press accounts cite different Jerome Avenue points
The official crash record lists Jerome Avenue at McClellan Street. Press accounts place the initial contact at a Jerome Avenue Citgo station near Shakespeare Avenue and say Young then drove across Edward L. Grant Highway for about 950 feet. The sources do not explain how those location references relate.
Galan’s family described a father lost
The Daily News identified the pedestrian as 59-year-old Jose “Negro” Galan. The paper reported that Galan’s daughter wrote on Facebook, “Today I write this knowing you will get the justice you deserve. I carry you in my heart today and always Dad I love you and hope that this allows your spirit to rest in peace.”
Reports differ on Timiko Young’s age: the Daily News reported she was 47, while Hoodline reported she was 45.
Records list driver inattention; prosecutors brought hit-and-run charges
The official crash and vehicle records list driver inattention or distraction as a contributing factor, and the official person and vehicle records also list pedestrian error or confusion.
In July 2025, the Daily News reported that Young was charged with leaving the scene. Hoodline, citing the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, reported that Young was indicted on charges of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and reckless endangerment. Clark said, “Her alleged actions are egregious and show a lack of humanity.”
