A 52-year-old Tesla driver crashed near Rockaway Boulevard and Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in Queens, killing his 54-year-old passenger, according to the official record and police accounts reported by local media.

Police described a three-vehicle crash near the airport

The official crash record places the crash at Rockaway Boulevard and Brewer Boulevard in Queens at 1:35 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2023. The Daily News, citing police, reported that the crash happened about 1:50 p.m.; QNS reported that officers responded just before 2 p.m.

Police told reporters that a 52-year-old man driving a black 2023 Tesla Model Y east on Rockaway Boulevard hit the rear of a gray 2010 Ford Fusion near Guy R. Brewer Boulevard. Police said the Tesla driver then continued into the intersection and hit a white 2002 International utility truck in the westbound lanes.

A front-seat passenger died at Jamaica Hospital

The official record identifies the person killed as a 54-year-old female occupant seated in the front passenger seat of the Tesla. Police told QNS she was found unconscious and unresponsive, and EMS took her to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The Tesla driver was also taken to Jamaica Hospital and was listed in stable condition, according to police accounts. The drivers of the Ford and the utility truck were not injured, and QNS reported that they remained at the scene.

Investigators had not announced charges in early reports

The Daily News reported the day after the crash that it was not yet clear whether the Tesla driver would be charged. QNS reported that the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad’s investigation remained ongoing.
