DOT Driver Kills 86-Year-Old Pedestrian in Bay Ridge Crosswalk

News 12 reported that surveillance video showed Antonio Conigliaro walking in the middle of the crosswalk before a driver in a yellow New York City Department of Transportation truck hit him. The official record lists failure to yield right-of-way as a contributing factor.
Antonio Conigliaro died at the scene
Police identified the pedestrian as 86-year-old Antonio Conigliaro, News 12 reported. The outlet reported that police said he was killed on impact and that sources said he lived just down the street from the crash location.
News 12 reported that the driver was a 31-year-old man who stayed at the scene with police. In its June 12 report, News 12 said police reported no arrests.

After the fatal crash, News 12 reported that bystanders and residents described the intersection as dangerous. Bay Ridge resident Samia Haq told the outlet, “Especially the walk sign. It turns on but by the time you're in the middle of the road, then it's gone.”
Police reopened the street after the response
FDNY officials told News 12 that first responders found Conigliaro dead at the scene. News 12 later reported that the NYPD reopened the street to drivers.
