Late-night crash during an emergency response

Police said Ivancsuk was riding west on Avenue U. ABC7 reported FDNY firefighters in Engine 309 were traveling south on Flatbush Avenue to a fire with lights and sirens activated.

The official record says the crash involved a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle and a 2014 KME fire apparatus, with one person on the motorcycle and five people in the fire apparatus.

Valentin Ivancsuk died; reports differ on pronouncement

ABC7 and News 12 identified the rider as 30-year-old Valentin Ivancsuk; the official record lists the person killed as a 30-year-old male motorcycle driver.

ABC7 and the Daily News reported that medics took him to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. News 12 reported that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Daily News reported the 49-year-old FDNY member driving stayed at the scene. ABC7 reported the firefighters on the truck were checked out at the scene, and quoted the FDNY as saying the "incident is under investigation."

Speed is listed; the emergency response is also documented

The official record lists unsafe speed as the contributing factor for the crash and for the Yamaha motorcycle.

Press accounts citing police and the FDNY said FDNY firefighters were responding to a fire or call with lights and sirens activated when the crash occurred.
