Police said officers were called around 2:06 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, and found a 30-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to his head and body. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, also reported as SBH Health System, where he was pronounced dead.

Police later said a 23-year-old man driving a 2024 Toyota BZ4X northbound on Mosholu Parkway, just north of the Major Deegan underpass, hit the pedestrian in the roadway. Police told local outlets the driver initially left the scene and later returned.
