Police said Shantilou continued west on East 211th Street and did not remain at the scene. Police described a left turn, then a driver leaving the scene

According to police accounts reported by Norwood News and News 12, Hubert Shantilou, 69, was driving a Toyota Sienna north on Boston Road as Ronald Vasquez-Herrera rode a Kawasaki motorcycle south. Police said Shantilou turned left onto East 211th Street, hit the motorcycle rider, continued west on East 211th Street and did not remain at the scene.

The city crash record places the crash at 9:12 p.m. and lists Turning Improperly as a contributing factor. It also records Failure to Yield Right-of-Way for the Toyota Sienna involved.

The rider was taken to Jacobi and died there

News reports identified the motorcyclist as Ronald Vasquez-Herrera, 29, of Mount Hope. The city crash record lists the killed motorcycle driver as a 28-year-old male.

EMS took Vasquez-Herrera to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. The official record lists no other injured people.

Police and city records identify the motorcycle and minivan

Police said Vasquez-Herrera was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle and Shantilou was driving a Toyota Sienna. The city record describes the motorcycle as a 2020 Kawasaki traveling south and going straight before the crash.

News 12 reported that Citizen app footage showed the rider’s green bike in the street, surrounded by crime scene tape and debris.

The arrest came more than two months later

Police arrested Shantilou on June 12 in the 47th Precinct. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, driving without a license, and making an improper left turn.
