BMW Driver Accused in Fatal Staten Island Hit-and-Run

A driver fled after hitting Rolon near a yard sale
Police told the Daily News that a driver in a white BMW SUV was heading south on Decker Avenue in Port Richmond at about 4:18 p.m. on June 21, 2026, when the driver hit Diana Rolon and continued toward Post Avenue. ABC7 reported that Rolon had crossed Decker Avenue to get cash for an item at a yard sale before the crash.
The crash happened on a residential Staten Island block
News accounts placed the crash on Decker Avenue in Port Richmond, with the New York Post reporting it happened near Catherine Street. Relatives told ABC7 the block was a typical residential street and called for longer-term traffic-calming measures, including speed bumps.
Diana Rolon’s family described a mother and school worker
Rolon was 60. Her family described her as a mother, sister and aunt, and her son Michael Haque told ABC7 she loved being a school paraprofessional. The Daily News reported that her son had recently graduated from Michael J. Petrides High School and spent days at his mother’s bedside after the crash.
Rolon suffered an intracranial hemorrhage and fractures to her right arm, left leg and face, according to family accounts reported by the Daily News. She underwent emergency brain surgery at Richmond University Medical Center, was declared brain dead, and died in the hospital days after the crash.
Relatives pointed to speed and demanded safer streets
ABC7 reported that nearby security video showed the white BMW seconds before the impact, and relatives described the driver as speeding. Melissa Rolon told the station, “We don’t want cops to just sit on the corner for a week. We need change for the long run, you know.”
Police arrested Bruce Arneaud in July
The Daily News reported that police arrested Bruce Arneaud, 28, on July 9 and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. The paper reported that he pleaded not guilty at arraignment and was released without bail.
Emily Feliciano, identified by the Daily News as Rolon’s niece, said the arrest felt “bittersweet” and added, “Nothing’s going to bring her back.”
