Motorcyclist dies after LIE ramp crash in Maspeth

Police told QNS that David Rivera, a 49-year-old Marlboro man, was riding a Suzuki GSX-R750 east on the Long Island Expressway outer roadway ramp, east of 69th Street in Maspeth, on the morning of Aug. 8, 2026. Investigators said Rivera was traveling on the right shoulder when he struck a metal sewer grate, lost control and collided with a barrier wall. Officers found him on the roadway with a serious head injury, and EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad was still investigating, and no arrests had been made, QNS reported.

QNS reported that police from the 104th Precinct responded to a 911 call on the eastbound Long Island Expressway outer roadway ramp, east of 69th Street, on the morning of Aug. 8. Officers found David Rivera lying on the roadway with a serious head injury.

Police identified the rider as David Rivera, 49, of Athboy Drive in Marlboro, Ulster County. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene, QNS reported.
