Police said the 48-year-old driver of a DOT Mack dump truck was making a right turn from Metropolitan Avenue onto Lefferts Boulevard just before 9 a.m. when he hit Nilufar Komilova.
Komilova suffered severe head and torso injuries, and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene, according to police.
A mother walking home from school drop-off
Nilufar Komilova was 31 and a citizen of Uzbekistan, according to a report citing Uzbekistan's state news agency Dunyo.
Akobir Azizov, described as a close family friend, said Komilova had just taken her seven-year-old daughter to school and was walking home about two blocks from her apartment. "She usually takes Lefferts Boulevard," Azizov said.
Komilova left two children, a three-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter, according to the report.
Driver stayed as officials responded
Police said the DOT driver remained at the scene and that the investigation was continuing.
Uzbek officials said the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in New York was in regular contact with Komilova's family and was providing consular and legal assistance.
