Police said a 34-year-old driver in a Tesla hit Doreen Meyers as she rode an e-scooter on Amsterdam Avenue; she died at Mount Sinai Morningside.
Doreen Meyers, 49, of Hell's Kitchen, was riding a stand-up e-scooter north on Amsterdam Avenue near West 60th Street around 10:35 a.m. on July 30, 2026, according to police accounts cited by local news. A 34-year-old man driving a Tesla was traveling west on West 60th Street when police said he hit her. Responders took Meyers to Mount Sinai Morningside, where she was pronounced dead. The driver stayed at the scene, and no charges were immediately filed; the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was investigating. West Side Spirit later described Meyers as a former Peace Corps volunteer and dedicated marathoner.

Crashes with injuries cost much more because the method includes things like lost work, medical care, and long-term harm. NHTSA says crash costs include "lost productivity, medical, legal and court costs, emergency service, insurance administration, congestion, property damage, and workplace losses."

These are estimates, not bills. "Other harm" is the part of the broader estimate that goes beyond direct bills and insurance claims. It captures pain, disability, and lost quality of life.
